Heel Grants Reckeweg Clinical Case Award 2023

Reckeweg award winners 2023

On November 30, 2023, the Reckeweg Clinical Case Award Ceremony took place at the Heel headquarters in Baden-Baden, Germany. This event recognizes and promotes excellence in observational research through clinical case reports. This year’s ceremony represented another significant milestone in advancing healthcare knowledge and education.

Twenty-three applications have been received from healthcare professionals worldwide. Physicians from Germany, Colombia, Russia, Azerbaijan, and Ukraine have applied, bringing a global perspective to clinical knowledge sharing.

As in the previous year, the award ceremony was live-streamed, allowing for a broader audience reach across countries and inspiring case reporting among healthcare professionals on a global scale. In his keynote lecture, “How to turn clinical case reports from anecdotes into useful treasure,” Dr. Robbert van Haselen´, a Director of the International Institute for Integrated Medicine (INTMEDI) in the UK and the former editor-in-chief of ‘Complementary Therapies in Medicine’ discussed how clinical case reports can be valuable in translating professional experience into evidence and knowledge.

The keynote lecture was followed by presentations of two winning cases.

Dr. Garzón presented a veterinary case about a 15-year-old Poodle grappling with chronic kidney disease – a prevalent issue in small animal clinics and a leading cause of mortality in older pets. Despite previous treatments, the dog showed no improvement and suffered from severe symptoms. Following hospitalization, a comprehensive treatment plan was developed, resulting in noticeable improvement by the third day and subsequent discharge due to clear signs of recovery.

Dr. Pecher presented the case of a professional footballer suffering from chronic groin pain, which persisted for four months. With the patient’s history of prior unsuccessful treatments, Dr. Pecher applied a holistic approach, which resulted in remarkable recovery within eight weeks without using NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs). His comprehensive treatment plan not only alleviated the chronic pain but also facilitated the footballer’s successful return to high-intensity training.
